- Abstract
-
A postcard, postdated at Cavendish April 16 1907, bearing a message in L.M. Montgomery's handwriting addressed to "Mr. Geo. B. MacMillan". George Boyd MacMillan (1881-1953) was a Scottish journalist and writer, and a favourite correspondent of L.M. Montgomery. The two were first introduced, by letter, in 1903, through an American writer who was developing a circle of literary pen friends. Although Montgomery and MacMillan only met briefly in-person, during her 1911 honeymoon in Scotland, their voluminous exchange of letters, postcards, and gifts continued until late 1941, just months before Montgomery's death. PARTIAL TRANSCRIPT: "[message on front] Typical winter scene in our strait. [message on back] Just received word today that I have had a book M.S. accepted by prominent American publishing firm. L.M.M."
