A postcard, postdated August 1, 1905, bearing a message in George Boyd MacMillan's handwriting addressed to "Miss L.M. Montgomery". George Boyd MacMillan (1881-1953) was a Scottish journalist and writer, and a favourite correspondent of L.M. Montgomery. The two were first introduced, by letter, in 1903, through an American writer who was developing a circle of literary pen friends. Although Montgomery and MacMillan only met briefly in-person, during her 1911 honeymoon in Scotland, their voluminous exchange of letters, postcards, and gifts continued until late 1941, just months before Montgomery's death. PARTIAL TRANSCRIPT: "I am writing this card in the room you see portrayed here. The bed in the corner was where the poet was born. Homely place isn't it? [P.S. this pen might have been the one used by the poet too; it is so beastly scratchy!] GBM."
